Golf Course Luxury with a little mountain magic: A Remarkable Luxury Log Home FOR SALE in South Fork, Colorado - 4,466 square feet
A Little Mountain Magic: Timberline Trail in South Fork, Colorado
Every once in a while, I walk into a home that doesn't fit neatly into ordinary real estate vocabulary.
Beautiful? Absolutely.
Luxury? Without question.
But those words don't quite explain Timberline Trail.
See this property from the air!
Some homes are built on the mountain.
This one feels as though it grew from it.
Tucked into 1.84 wooded acres at the Rio Grande Club in South Fork, Colorado, this extraordinary Swedish cope log home seems to settle naturally into the mountainside. Towering spruce and aspen surround it. Enormous moss-covered boulders emerge from the forest floor. Stone walls, terraces and winding pathways follow the contours of the land instead of trying to tame them.
Not in a whimsical, fairy-tale-cottage sort of way. This is a substantial 4,466-square-foot luxury home. But there is an unmistakable sense of woodland magic here—the feeling that the architecture and the forest have been quietly sharing this mountainside for a very long time.
A Home Shaped by Its Surroundings
The first thing you notice is how beautifully the materials flow together.
Massive Swedish cope logs form the home itself, while native stone rises from the landscape and seamlessly continues into patios, terraces, and fireplaces. Heavy timber trusses are joined with dramatic black steel details. Warm lantern-style fixtures glow against the wood.
And then there are the windows.
A soaring wall of glass fills the great room with natural light and turns the landscape into part of the interior. From inside, your view stretches across the Rio Grande Club, the mountain valley and the peaks beyond.
The effect is impressive, certainly—but what surprised me most is how warm the house feels.
Despite its size and scale, it isn't cavernous or formal. The wood, stone, fireplaces, and warm lighting create intimate spaces that invite you to settle in and stay awhile.
I can imagine this room on a snowy December evening just as easily as I can picture the doors open on a cool Colorado summer morning.
Built for Gathering
The kitchen sits at the center of the main living space, with custom cabinetry, granite countertops and a large island where people will inevitably gather.
Step outside and the living space continues onto the expansive deck, with views across the golf course and mountains.
The primary suite offers its own retreat with vaulted ceilings, an adjacent study, spacious walk-in closet, and 5-piece, spa-style bath.
On the walkout lower level, three additional bedrooms feature nine-foot ceilings and tall alder doors. A large recreation room and a second sitting area with a gas fireplace and wet bar also offer plenty of room for family and guests without everyone having to occupy the same space. The recreation room is listed as the 5th bedroom in this home, although there is no closet. We wouldn't want you to miss this spectacular home just because there weren't enough bedrooms!
Outside the lower-level patio doors, you'll find another stone terrace and fire pit, tucked in alongside one of the property's enormous natural rock outcroppings.
It is exactly the sort of place where you can imagine a fire burning as the sun disappears behind the mountains.
Mountain Living Without Giving Up Comfort
For all its woodland charm, Timberline Trail is also wonderfully practical.
Radiant-floor heat keeps the home comfortable through our Colorado winters. There is a 1,000-gallon underground propane tank, smart-home technology, managed lighting, and surround sound, along with a two-car attached garage offering workshop space and a utility sink. Community water, city sewer, underground electricity, high-speed fiber internet, and land-line phone are all in place.
The home is also being offered almost completely furnished!
That matters here because the furnishings were purposefully selected just for these spaces. Rather than beginning with an empty 4,466-square-foot log home, you have the opportunity to simply arrive and begin enjoying it.

Golf in One Direction. National Forest in the Other.
Timberline Trail overlooks the 11th hole of the Rio Grande Club, one of the most beautiful golf settings in the nation. The Rio Grande Club repeatedly wins awards for being one of the most fun and challenging courses anywhere! People come for a few days to play this course and end up spending over a week. It's THAT FUN!
But I don't think you need to be a golfer to fall in love with this property.
An adjacent parcel provides direct access to National Forest lands, putting the Colorado backcountry remarkably close to home. Hiking, exploring, and thousands of square miles of mountain recreation are right there, without giving up the amenities and convenience of the Rio Grande Club community.
That combination is unusual.
So is this house.
Some Homes Simply Feel Different
After years of selling mountain property in South Fork, I've learned that the most memorable homes aren't necessarily the ones with the longest list of features.
They're the ones that make you feel something.
Timberline Trail does that.
Maybe it's the enormous boulders scattered beneath the trees. Maybe it's the craftsmanship of the logs and timber trusses. Maybe it's the glow of those lanterns against all that warm wood, or the wall of windows looking out toward the mountains.
I suspect it's all of it together.
There is a sense that this house belongs exactly where it is—that someone didn't simply choose a beautiful piece of Colorado and build upon it, but paid attention to the mountain and built with it.
Warm, private, substantial and just a little bit magical.
Timberline Trail is offered at $1,995,000 in South Fork, Colorado.
